Renault Launches New Clean Diesel Engines

Posted February 12
renault-clean-diesel-engine Renault has been working on a new clean diesel engine design which offers a remarkable fuel consumption of 64 miles per UK gallon (53 US mpg or just 4.4 litres per 100km).

Renault aims to be the car maker with the lowest fleet emissions and their new light duty diesel engines are a step towards this goal. They are also heavily involved in electric car development.

Renault's new engine design incorporates Diamond Like Carbon Coated cam followers which help the engine to work more efficiently by reducing friction. A start-stop system and Energy Smart Management braking and deceleration energy recovery technology further aids fuel economy.

Two engines have been developed, named the Energy dCI 90 and dCI 75. The numbers relate to the maximum horsepower of the engines. Emissions are a very low 115 g CO2/km.

Renault's new diesel engines will first see action in their small Kangoo vans, before making their way to other models. They're also likely to be installed in other manufacturers vehicles, such as Nissan, who Renault has an alliance with.
