New Ford Focus EcoBoost

Posted March 12
ford-ecoboost-engine Ford unveiled their new Focus 1.0 litre EcoBoost at this month's Geneva Motor Show. It's an important car because not only is it Ford's most fuel efficient petrol powered car ever but it also has a class leading combination of power and fuel economy.

At the heart of the car is a new 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine developing a useful 100 PS of power. Ford used a turbocharger and direct injection to extract as much power as possible from the tiny engine block, which they say, fits on an A4 piece of paper. Fuel economy is 59 mpg (4.8 l/100km) and CO2 emissions are just 109 g/km.

Other fuel saving features of the new Focus EcoBoost include an automatically adjusting grille for optimum aerodynamics, efficient battery charging technology called Smart Regenerative Charging, a gear shift indicator and graphical rewards for economical driving.

About half of Ford's currently sold wear the company's ECOnetic Technology badge. Ford aims to increase this figure to two-thirds.
